Concept for 2013: The Light of Convergence
“Light of Convergence” is the 2013 concept of the “Aurora” visual arts exhibition to be held in Dallas, Texas on October 18, 2013. “Light of Convergence” illuminates the dichotomy between and increased awarene¬¬ss of the individual and the greater whole. Massive and accelerating changes in technology have impacted the way individuals approach their various disciplines. “Light of Convergence” seeks to reveal evolving common creative and social awareness shared by members of communities. But this communal evolution of consciousness can also expose a darker side.
OPEN CALL
We cordially invite all emerging and established artists to submit proposals for Aurora 2013. Proposals should explore innovate approaches to a one night free public art event that transforms the neighborhood of The Dallas Art District (68 acres/19 city blocks of downtown Dallas, Texas). Artists should create installations of light, sound, performance and projection art—creating an immersive show for forty thousand plus visitors to experience art in unexpected places.
Contributors will be asked to consider how their creative voice and perspectives reflect, contribute and influence society at large, and vice-versa. Large-scale video projections, performances and a variety of site-specific, multi-media installations will highlight this concept.
Based on fund raising, selected artists will receive a compensated hotel room and flight to Dallas for the event. However, this is not guaranteed for all accepted entries.

GUIDELINES
• No age restrictions
• No submission fees
• The deadline for submissions is June 15, 2013.
• Artist bios and CVs should each be kept to less than 500 words in length
• No more than 3 supporting images should be sent in no larger than 590 pixels width, 72 dpi. Images formatted larger than this will be returned.
ABOUT THE AURORA PROJECT
Founded in 2011, The AURORA Project is a free contemporary art event centered in the heart of the Dallas Arts District. The event exhibits over 100 site-specific installations of light, sound, performance, video and interactive installations from leading local, national and international artists. The exhibited artworks interact with the buildings, streets and surfaces, transforming 68 acres/19 city blocks of downtown Dallas into one of the nation’s largest outdoor media art exhibitions of this ground-breaking medium.
